Effective 2011, the Internal Revenue Service has announced new tax preparer requirements and regulations for income tax preparers (called "Unenrolled Tax Preparers", which is any tax preparer who is not a not CPA, Attorney, or Enrolled Agent).
Under these new tax preparer requirements, these tax preparers must register with the IRS, pass a competency test, comply with specific "ethical standards", and take ongoing continuing education (CPE) courses.
